First separate three different symptoms
Sideways drift means the running belt changes position across the deck. A hesitation means the belt appears to slow, stop or jerk while it should be moving smoothly. Paw slipping means a foot loses traction against the top surface; the belt itself may still run normally. Write down which one you observed, where it happened and whether the machine displayed an error. This distinction gives support a much better starting point than a general complaint about slipping.
If you are uncertain, describe the observation without assigning a cause: “the belt paused twice” is more useful than “the motor is broken.” A technician can ask for a particular demonstration if needed. Do not recreate a stumble with your dog for a video, and do not put your hands near moving rollers to feel for the problem.
Match the instructions to the exact machine
Photograph the model and serial label and locate that revision's manual. A continuous motorized belt, a wooden slatmill and a plastic slatmill do not share one adjustment procedure. Even nearly identical housings can conceal different assemblies. The name on the shopping page is not sufficient when the seller lists several sizes or generations under one product family.

Gather evidence before reaching for an adjustment bolt
With the machine stopped and a motorized unit switched off and unplugged, photograph the belt position at the front and rear. Note visible edge damage, fraying, a raised seam, a damaged slat or something trapped around an accessible opening. Keep fingers and tools out of the mechanism. Record whether the machine was moved, folded, assembled or serviced immediately before the symptom appeared.
Make a separate note about the installation: the floor surface, whether the frame rocks, the mat used underneath it and whether all supports are positioned according to the manual. These are observations for the manufacturer to interpret. They do not prove a misaligned roller. If a support person needs an unloaded running video, request the exact setup and keep the dog and other animals out of the area.
Why there is no universal quarter-turn repair
An adjustment instruction has several parts: which component, which direction, how much movement, the machine's required power state and how to assess the result. Copying only “turn the rear bolt” omits most of the procedure. Do not transplant a human treadmill video or another dog treadmill's instructions simply because the bolt looks familiar. Ask support to identify the part on a photo when the manual's diagram is unclear.
If an authorized procedure does apply, record the starting position and each permitted change, then follow its specified checks. Repeated adjustments without a reference make it harder to reconstruct what changed. Stop and contact support when the documented procedure fails, the adjustment reaches its limit, or damaged components are visible. A rough-running machine is not ready for your dog merely because its belt has moved closer to the middle.
Keep traction and equipment fit in the investigation
If the top surface appears wet, oily or contaminated, use the cleaning method approved for that exact material and wait for the manufacturer's return-to-use conditions. Do not add grip tape, sprays or a second mat on the moving surface. A seemingly simple modification can alter clearance or how the belt travels around a roller, and its suitability needs manufacturer confirmation.
The dog may also need a separate fit and movement assessment. Record when footing changed without trying to diagnose gait from a brief home observation. An injury, repeated stumble or new reluctance belongs in a conversation with your veterinarian.
